Hi Guys, Finally got started on a conversion fitting a MK3 GTI engine into my Cappo. Progress has been slow looking for bits, plus working away doesn't help. The conversion started out with a 12A rotary and Mazda R8 6 speed box, but with the g/box far too big for little Cappo tunnel and I saw the GTI engine on Gumtree the rotary was scraped. Now has a spot in the corner for a one day project. I also decided to keep it all Suzuki and look like a genuine Cappuccino GTI. and 2 sugar's
Progress to date been fairly easy and straight forward. *GTI engine to Jiminy g/box is plain bolt up but must use GTI p/plate with Jiminy c/plate as spline is larger. *Cappo/Jiminy rear g/box mount modified into one. Completed. * Cappo remote gear linkage assembly reused but torque rod & linkage extended. Complete. * Cappo & Jiminy both run cable clutches so only need to make sleeve/spacer at g/box end. * Drive shaft will be Jiminy extended. * Purchased polyurethane bushes & sleeves to fab engine mounts. Required to be rigid as only 12mm clearance between cam belt & bonnet ribs plus same between sump, side of block and steering rack mounts. * GTI sump redrilled, reversed, front cut down to clear rack & rear bowl cut to level with bell housing & front cross member. Serria oil pick up pipe to be modified. * Cappo throttle cable too short so once its out will check end/length & hopefully can use GTI * Radiator will be Honda civic 2 row 40mm alloy type with thermo fan from ebay. Ports are same side as Cappo. * Turbo manifold will be the tricky bit for me but may buy S/S turbo one off ebay and mod it to fit the VF25 3 bolt turbo. I think the bends are too large and turbo will foul chassis rail. Also will try move it around and top mount it but don’t know how tight a bends I can get yet * Will use GTI ecu with turbo chip. * Will use Mazda 323 turbo dizzy cap for now but would like to remove the dizzy and move engine back further. Costs are too high for aftermarket ecu and all that goes with it. I did think of driving the dizzy with a belt from the ex cam but then it would have looked like farmer browns shed special. Thats all I can think of for now but will update once more has been done. If anyone knows or has done this conversion I would appreciate some advice or short cuts if I'm on the wrong track. Also after some body kit bits if any one has for sale or can advise where to get. Tried to add some photos, but don't know where they gone??? Regards GTI CAPPO

I will try download some photos when I work out how to. Cappo is still registered now, so may get it mod plated depending how many hoops they want me to jump thru. I won't tell if you don't for now. |

Hi mate. I'm planning to do the exact conversion as well but build a big power engine for the track. So I'm still in the engine building stage and haven't tried any of the engine fitting yet as I still want to drive it for now with the f6a.
I'll be watching this thread with keen close eyes as your info is already very valuable for me!
As for body kit, i can help. I have some 20mm wide front fenders from Toyoshimacraft but they're damaged but can be fixed if you're good with fibreglass. Anything else, let me know.
What state are you in? Is love to check the build out in person sometime!
Kind regards,
Brian. |

Hey Guys some progress on the conversion.
Engine & g/box mounts done. Gear linkage & torque rod done. Jiminy drive shaft extended and adaptor plate/flange onto cappo diff. Turbo manifold fabricated waiting its return from ceramic coating. Vitara (carb model) throttle cable used. Thermostat cove being alloy welded to allow 3 'o' clock outlet position.
Parts still to be fitted when engine goes in for last time. Alloy fly wheel with brass button puck clutch. Alloy front pulley, ARP head & mains stud kits, steel laminated head gasket. Front & rear 20mm solid adjustable torsion bars.
Parts ordered. Blow off valve, fuel press/reg, Walbro fuel pump and 550x185 x 65mm intercooler |

Still not running yet, but then there was two. Have been chipping away at it when home and hope to have it running by xmas. Changed from small bottom mount turbo to larger Garret turbo and top mount to get it in. |

Any one know the history of the silver Cappo from the Perth area? Looks like its had a fair sized shunt RH front. |

Progress looks good! I'm not familiar with WA Cappuccino histories unfortunately. So the bottom mount T25 definitely won't fit? Does it pay to just go straight for the top mount to begin with? |

That's a nice clean setup, did you need to modify the firewall? |

Hey Guys, Bottom mount turbo will fit if you make manifold from scratch. Mine was made for bottom mount and smaller turbo. So once the T25 was tried, just too much work for it to fit bottom mount. Fouled on engine crank case, engine mount and oil filter. Sliced the exhaust flange off, flipped it over re-welded and now have top mount. It did create another problem in that compressor side fouled on the bonnet ribs and only found that once it was done and tried to close bonnet. (Rookie mistake #plenty) Options were: make another manifold, cut the bonnet or modify the comp housing and shock absorber plate. As can be seen in photo option 3 was what happened. If I did again I would re make complete bottom mount manifold and keep piping neat and short. If you plan on keeping your aircon then re think and trial fit all the bits.
As for the firewall no mods needed if you run coil packs, but if you stick with the dizzy and use the Mazda cap you will need to stretch the metal to put a bowl for enough clearance to remove the dizzy cap and then the dizzy. Right angle dizzy drive kit may also work but I never tried one. The Mazda cap option is not straight fit and needs mods to get it to work. Cap doesn't fit the dizzy, needs spigot to be bored out and mount holes re drilled/tapped then rotor needs mods or spring loaded carbon brush fitted into the Mazda cap.
Jimmny g/box does fit in the Cappo tunnel but is tight. I modified my tunnel by bulging the tight area's with pneumatic hammer/chisel gun. Option 2 is reuse cappo g/box by cutting off bell housing and welding or flanging a G13b to it. Apparently cappo g/box is ok at 200hp if you gentle with it. Suggest you do your home work and get all your ducks in a row before you start

Any more updates? I spend the summers in Japan and I have not seen a G13b for sale since 2017 when I lost the Yahoo Auction. Finding a M16a is now far easier...even a M18a in Japan is easier to find than a G13b nowadays. So, I quit looking and now fantasize about a H27a swap into a Cappuccino because that engine bay looks like it can hold larger engines. LSx swap would be for a video game......but,
hope to see more of the GTI cappuccino. |

No real progress to-date.
Still need. Exhaust piping/silencer finishing Some water hose plumbing. Wiring and then ecu mapping/dyno.
Have silver Cappo so having fun driving it for now. Want to put it on the track to compare it to other cars when next home. Changed the wheels on it to 15x6 195/50 which still had old cracked and hard tires on them, and already big difference in handling. Steering is heavier with wider wheels, but hey Im not teaching the kids to park it. Will put some semi slicks before track day.

Have finally got my car in at the shop getting some work done. Decided just to fit up the standard NA G13b first. Using a modified cappuccino gearbox with a G13b bellhousing. Hopefully will be running within the next 4 weeks. |
